Time flies if you are having a good time and when you are with the main one you love. Since the years pass by, perhaps your anniversaries begin to sneak up on you, with you and your family member seemingly always finding yourself going out to dinner again. Or possibly the big day comes and goes, and you never do anything more because you are on a tight budget and can't think of something to do that is celebratory, memorable, and won't cost a fortune. (Sure, a visit to your wine country sounds perfect; but can it be worth refinancing your house and mortgage to finance this?)
Well, luckily, you can be both romantic and financially smart. Here are 5 inexpensive and exciting new methods to celebrate your anniversary.
1. Just Be Together
Take the day off from work, turn fully off the mobile phone, stop checking your email, and just spend some quality time together and save money. Keep it simple and remove yourselves from your own busy everyday lives. Celebrate your lifetime together because that's what your anniversary is all about.
2. Match Your Gift with Your Anniversary Year
If that is your fifth anniversary, give five roses. If this is your 10th anniversary, give a 10-minute massage. Be thoughtful and fun. Create a game from it, and see who are able to show up with creative number-themed gift.
3. Give Thoughtful Gifts
For each anniversary year, you can find traditional gifts that you could give. For instance, the gift for the first year is traditionally paper. Consider giving your spouse stationery you've customized, a book, a love letter, or other things connected with paper. It doesn't need to be expensive, just thoughtful. There's also a contemporary anniversary gift for every year. For example, for the fourth anniversary, the current gift is appliances, which might be a lot cheaper when compared to a pricey bit of technology. If you're thinking about what these gifts are, here is a handy listing of traditional and modern anniversary gifts by year.
4. Watch Your Wedding Video
I don't think I've ever watched my wedding video. Honestly, I am not sure where it is. But what's the idea of getting a movie made if you are not going to view it? Your anniversary is a good opportunity to keep in mind that special day, so take out that wedding DVD and watch highlights together. If there isn't one, perhaps you have a movie of a secondary you took or another memorable occasion. If not, look during your wedding album or pictures that you took during your years together.
5. Get Crafty
If you are feeling a little artsy, go decorate some pottery for every other (most towns have a DIY pottery studio or two). Or make something together, like a photo album or scrapbook of the prior year's events.
