Time flies if you are having a good time and if you are with the one you love. Because the years go by, perhaps your anniversaries begin to sneak up on you, with you and your family member seemingly always finding yourself heading out to dinner again. Or perhaps the big day comes and goes, and that you don't do anything more because you are on a restricted budget and can't consider something to achieve that is celebratory, memorable, and won't cost a fortune. (Sure, a trip to the wine country sounds perfect; but could it be worth refinancing your house and mortgage to finance this?)

Well, luckily, you can be both romantic and financially smart. Here are 5 inexpensive and exciting new approaches to celebrate your anniversary.

1. Just Be Together

Take the day off from work, turn off the cell phone, stop checking your email, and just spend some quality time together and save money. Keep it simple and remove yourselves from your own busy everyday lives. Celebrate your life together because that is what your anniversary is all about.

2. Match Your Gift with Your Anniversary Year

If that is your fifth anniversary, give five roses. If that is your 10th anniversary, offer a 10-minute massage. Be thoughtful and fun. Produce a game from the jawhorse, and see who will come up with creative number-themed gift.

3. Give Thoughtful Gifts

For every anniversary year, you will find traditional gifts that you can give. Like, the gift for the very first year is traditionally paper. Consider giving your partner stationery you've customized, a guide, a love letter, or anything else associated with paper. It doesn't need to be expensive, just thoughtful. There's also a modern anniversary gift for every year. As an example, for the fourth anniversary, the present day gift is appliances, which might be a lot cheaper than the usual pricey bit of technology. If you're enthusiastic about what these gifts are, listed here is a handy set of traditional and modern anniversary gifts by year.

4. Watch Your Wedding Video

I don't think I have ever watched my wedding video. Honestly, I'm not really sure where it is. But what's the point of experiencing a video made if you're not going to view it? Your anniversary is a great opportunity to remember that special day, so take out that wedding DVD and watch highlights together. If you don't have one, perhaps you have a movie of a holiday you took or another memorable occasion. If not, look throughout your wedding album or pictures that you have got during your years together.

5. Get Crafty

If you are feeling a little artsy, go decorate some pottery for every other (most towns have a DIY pottery studio or two). Or make something together, such as a photo album or scrapbook of the previous year's events.
